How to put Pillar on your phone
Pillar installs on a phone straight from the browser, so there is nothing to find in an app store. Three routes get the icon onto a home screen, and they work the same for you and for every tech you add.
Open Pillar on the phone
Where to clickPhone browserYour Pillar web addressSign in
Type the same web address you use on a computer into the phone browser, then press Sign in with your own email and password. Safari on an iPhone and Chrome on Android both work.
Installing happens on the phone in the person's hand, so each member of the team does it once on their own device. Nothing is pushed from your account to anybody else's phone.
Press Install when the banner appears
Where to clickAny Pillar pageInstall PillarInstall
A bar headed Install Pillar appears along the bottom of the screen, reading Install for quick access and offline support. Press Install, then confirm in the prompt your browser puts up.
On an iPhone the same bar carries the manual route instead: tap the share icon, then Add to Home Screen. Safari has no automatic install prompt, so that is the normal route there.
Or install from Settings any time
Where to clickSettingsInstall AppInstall Pillar
Settings sits with your name at the foot of the left sidebar on a computer, and under More on a phone. The page carries a card headed Install App.
Press Install Pillar on that card when your browser offers the install. When it does not, the card prints the manual route for the browser you are holding.
The card is only there while Pillar is not installed yet, so it going away is how you know the install worked. Getting it back means removing the app from the home screen.
Add it by hand if no banner appears
Where to clickSafari or ChromeBrowser menuAdd to Home Screen
On an iPhone, open Pillar in Safari, tap the Share button, then pick Add to Home Screen. The icon behaves exactly the same as one installed from the banner.
On Android, open the Chrome menu and pick Install app or Add to Home Screen, whichever wording your version of Chrome uses. Pillar prints that same instruction on the Install App card.
Common questions
Is Pillar in the App Store or on Google Play?
No. Pillar installs from the browser as a web app, so there is nothing to download from a store and no store update to chase when a new version ships.
Do my technicians install it the same way?
Yes. The same banner and the same Install App card show up on their phone, and what they see after signing in is set by their role, so a technician lands in the field view.
The banner is gone. How do I install now?
Not now puts the banner away for a week. Settings then Install App installs at any point, and so does the browser menu route in step 4.
Does the installed app work without signal?
It opens without waiting on the network, but jobs, invoices, and customers are still fetched over the internet like any other page. Treat it as a faster way in rather than an offline mode.
